All Eyes on Jesus!
Have you ever gazed at something? To gaze at someone is not a passing glance. A gaze is a purposeful look, giving "full attention" to who or what you are seeing. Gaze in Hebrew means to look upon with pleasure, to behold.
In our Scriptures, from the book of Matthew 14:22-32 we read about Peter and his water experience. It begins with: "Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd". Jesus was obviously going to join them eventually. Now before dawn, Jesus headed towards the boat, walking on the lake! The disciples see a figure coming and were terrified it was a ghost. Jesus said "Don't be afraid, it is I".
Peter wants to go towards Jesus; and Jesus told Peter to COME! Now Peter steps out of the boat and looks towards Jesus, and walks on the water! Wow!
As the wind became worse, Peter started to panic, and cried out "Lord, save me". Peter began to take his focus off of Jesus and thought only of the wind. Jesus said to Peter..."you of little faith" and
"why did you doubt?"
Instead of thinking about the wind; Peter needed to trust in Jesus who told him it was okay to come out of the boat. Should Peter have kept his gaze upon Jesus?
In our lives, it's not too hard to drift away from Jesus. However, when we do, we are forgetting all the blessings and power that Jesus brings to our living. We forget He is the Majesty, the healer, the light in the darkness, the TRUTH and the way!
Today...it's time for you to turn your eyes and focus on JESUS. Not just for 8 hours, but keep that focus day after day. Jesus does not grow weary in a relationship with you. He enjoys you!
May today's devotion encourage you. Peace of Jesus be with you.
